History Facts

In Great Britain, hemp cultivation dates back to 800 AD.  There are even carbon tests that suggest that the hemp plant dates back as far as 8000 B.C.  In the 16thcentury, Henry VIII encouraged his farmers to plant crops extensively to provide materials for the British Naval Fleet.  A steady supply of hemp was needed for the construction of battleships and components.  Sails, pennants, riggings and oakum were all made from hemp fiber and oil.  Hemp paper was used for maps, logs. . . and guess what?  Even the Bible they carried on board.

From 1937 until the late 1960s the United States Government recognized that industrial hemp and marijuana were two distinct varieties of cannabis plant.  After the Control Substances Act was passed, hemp was no longer recognized as being distinct from Marijuana. Once againone of the largest intentional misunderstandings.

Presently there are many studies being done with CBD including Pharmaceutical companies.  The Pharmaceutical companies are making a synthetic version of the natural CBD.  Unfortunately we cannot make any claims to the benefits of CBD for the body.  This alone should tell you something.  Do your research and know that we produce some of the highest quality CBD available on the internet.  We wish we could tell you the benefits; as it pleases us to see something God has given to this earth that turns around and gives back to humanity.  Realize every body is different and herbs play a huge part in mans existence.  Most studies that you will find by doctors are outside of the United States.  Why?

Oh yes, hemp goes on.  In 1896 Rudolph Diesel had produced his famous engine.  Like many others, Diesel assumed that his engine would be powered by a variety of fuels, especially vegetable and seed oils.  This was what we know today as the diesel engine.  Henry Ford of what is now known as the Ford Motor Company saw the potential of biomass fuels.  He operated a successful biomass conversion plant producing hemp fuel at their Iron Mountain facility in Michigan.  Today these are supplied by oil-related industries.

In the 17thCentury American farmers in Virginia, Massachusetts and Connecticut were ordered by law to grow hemp. By the 18thCentury, a person could be sentenced to jail if they did not grow a hemp crop on their land.  Hemp in those days was considered legal tender.  For over 200 years in colonial America, hemp was currency and could be used to pay their taxes.  In 1850, the U.S. Census documented approximately 8500 hemp plantations of at least 2000 acres each.  The strains of hemp included China hemp, Smyrna hemp and Japanese hemp.  In 1850 cannabis was added to the list of theU.S. Pharmacopeia, a respected compendium of medicines and dietary supplements.

CBD oil is all the rage.  Its important to learn the difference and know the background of something that is not new, but very, very old.  Did you know that the hemp plant which CBD is extracted from has been around for over 10,000 years?  Please note that this is probably a conservative figure.

The astronomer Carl Sagan, an icon in the science world, put forth the possibility that cannabis may have been the worlds first agricultural crop, leading to the development of civilization itself.  Looking at timelines, it is clear that cannabis plants have been integral to mankind since the earliest of times.

Viewing it as a threat, a smear campaign against hemp was started by competing corporate industries by associating hemp with marijuana.  Propaganda films like Reefer Madness assured hemps demise.  When Congress passed theMarijuana Tax Actin 1937, hemps demise effectively began.  The tax and licensing regulations of the Act made hemp cultivation nearly impossible for American farmers.  Anslinger, the chief promoter of the Tax Act argued for anti-marijuana legislation around the world.

A fascinating situation arose during World War II as American farmers were prohibited from producing hemp because of the 1937Marijuana Tax Actlaw.  However, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor halted the importation of Manila hemp from the Philippines, prompting the USDA to rethink their agenda and creating a call to action with the release of the film, Hemp for Victory.  This media movement motivated American farmers to grow hemp for the war effort.  Our government formed a private company called War Hemp Industries to subsidize hemp cultivation.  Over one million acres of hemp were grown across the Midwest as part of this program.  As soon as the war ended, and yes you guessed it, all the hemp processing plants were shut down and the industry disappeared once again.  Interestingly enough, because of all this, wild hemp may be found scattered across the country.

  1. I do love the manner in which you have framed this matter and it really does offer me personally some fodder for consideration. Nevertheless, because of everything that I have seen, I simply just wish when the actual responses stack on that people keep on issue and in no way start on a soap box involving some other news of the day. Yet, thank you for this superb point and though I do not go along with this in totality, I value the perspective.
