Hardy Kiwi is an exotic invasive ornamental that threatens forests in western Massachusetts through complete domination of mature trees. Once it germinates, it will climb surrounding vegetation and eventually kill its support. Hardy kiwi can grow over 20 feet in a year. It has become a major problem in places such as Kennedy Park and Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, and now Burbank Park.

Explore Edith Whartons original estate, including woods, wetlands, and meadows. Youll learn skills for birding by sight and song as we look for numerous bird species, including bobolinks, bald eagles, vireos, and wood warblers.
We will explore an example of Dry Oak Forest and Oak Heath Shrubland along the Southern Taconic Trail. Check out ourblog.blog for a description of the area from an ecology walk we led there in early June 2015. The walk will be guided by Claudia and Conrad Vispo of the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program. It is free and suitable for all ages. You will learn how to recognize some of the plants that are common on the high and dry ridges of the Taconics, but not so often seen in other parts of the County. We will also explore the insect life of this beautiful area. Space is limited, so please register at[emailprotected]or call . We will meet in the parking area of the RoeJan Park/Hillsdale Farmers Market just south of Hillsdale and carpool from there, because parking is limited at the trailhead. We will return to the parking lot in time for you to pick up a lunch and shop for the week at the Hillsdale Farmers Market.

Celebrate Fathers Day in the woods with Hilltown Land Trust! HLT board member and Williamsburg historian Eric Weber will lead an approximately 1.5 mile hike (out and back) to the ruins of the Williamsburg Reservoir Company dam whose failure in 1874 devastated four downstream villages and claimed 139 lives. Eric will tell the story of the disaster as we walk and pause at several stops.
